Similarly Firefly has different constraints than The Expanse and tells different types of stories. Firefly wins just because it’s short and was great out the gate. Star Trek as a short hand for anything has kind of lost meaning in the last decade, so I’m not even sure what Star Trek is anymore, so making comparisons to it is probably futile because it’s different things to different people.
Firefly is a completely different kind of show. It’s in the sci-fi genre, but the whole tone and point of the show is completely different than The Expanse. It’s like comparing Star Wars with 2001: A Space Odyssey or something. They’re both sci-fi, but are COMPLETELY different movies.
While this is a cool theory and there is definitely a similar feel to the 2 universes, the events of the Expanse books show pretty definitively that Firefly and Expanse do not take place in the same reality. Firefly takes place in a new , single solar system after an exodus from Earth.
